Gervan Jackson: Gone But Never Forgotten

October 3, 1988 – June 28, 2009

Some lives, though brief, shine so brightly they leave a lasting glow in the hearts of everyone they touch. Gervan Jackson was one of those rare souls — vibrant, full of energy, and rooted deeply in love for his family, his passions, and his purpose.

Born on October 3, 1988, to Rufus and Wanda Jackson, Gervan grew up in Inglewood, California, in a home filled with laughter, hard work, and strong family ties. From the very beginning, it was clear Gervan was destined to stand out. With a Kool-Aid smile that could light up a room, and a playful spirit that made everyone feel at ease, he brought joy wherever he went.

He was a daddy’s boy through and through — so much so that as a child, he would fall asleep in his shoes, just to make sure he didn’t miss a chance to go to the store with his father. His mom and dad would quietly slip them off once he was sleeping, but it was just one of many small ways he showed his deep love and connection to his family.

Gervan’s natural talent, especially in sports, began showing early. At just seven years old, he joined Pop Warner football with the Inglewood Jets. That young boy with the big grin would go on to help lead the Jets to a Pop Warner Super Bowl victory at the age of fifteen — a moment that crowned years of dedication, sweat, and passion. His athleticism wasn’t limited to the football field either. Gervan ran track throughout his youth and into high school at Inglewood High, where his speed and determination made him a standout.

But Gervan was never defined by just one thing. He wasn’t only an athlete. He was a builder, a thinker, and a doer. With a gift for working with his hands, Gervan could fix almost anything — a quick learner with an intuitive mind. Whether laying a tile floor or helping install slate on the front of his father’s house, he tackled every project with precision and pride. If something was broken, Gervan would figure it out — and fast.

Faith also played a part in his foundation. Raised Baptist, he occasionally attended First Church of God Center of Hope, where he was reminded of values like service, perseverance, and humility — all of which showed up in his everyday life.

In 2009, Gervan took his talents in a surprising direction when he participated in a dog training contest at Rancho Park. Professional dog training was just one more space where he showed discipline, patience, and his signature ability to connect. Whether it was people, pets, or even problems to be solved, Gervan always knew how to handle things with both heart and skill.

But above all, Gervan’s proudest role was being a father. His son, Ashton Jackson, was the center of his world. Gervan poured his love, wisdom, and energy into raising Ashton, teaching him through example how to work hard, stay true, and keep smiling. Today, Ashton honors his father’s legacy, graduating high school with honors from City Honors high School and preparing to attend California State University, Northridge in Fall 2025.

To his siblings — Mitchell, Rufus jr, Javion, Zelvan, Travis, Deron, Lawanica, and Shavonda — Gervan was more than a brother. He was a constant — the funny one, the hardworking one, the one who always had your back. Whether laughing, competing, fixing something, or leading the way, he had a way of making everyone feel stronger just by being around him.

Playful, funny, competitive, smart, hardworking, and loyal — Gervan Jackson was the kind of man you don’t forget. A team player. A leader. A family man. His time on Earth may have been short, but the love he gave, the memories he made, and the impact he left will last forever.

Gone, but never forgotten.
